Life Jacket Kiosk
Long Lake County Park
It's that time of year again. The fish are awake, and the ice is gone, and our first project is done. Time to go fishing. The first work party went well with completion of the kiosk assembly by the afternoon of March the 5th. The kiosk footings were poured on the 12th of March, and forms removed on the 23rd of March. Chris's Jig worked great and the kiosk was bolted in place with ease. The OTTER sign is silk screened with the South Kitsap Fire and Rescue numbers, and SKFR will do the maintenance of the loaner station for Kitsap County Parks. The reverse side of the kiosk (shown above) includes our club logo on the Safe Swimmers sign. The dedication ceremony was held on the 26th of March, with presentation to the Kitsap County Commissioners and KC Parks and Rec staff. Special thanks to Jenni Osborne for getting our materials, Harrison Hospital, The Medical Society, Kitsap Safe Swimmers and to the Silverdale Home Depot pro staff.

After completion of the kiosk assembly, Dave Raymaker gave a bass clinic on Clear Lake and the California Delta., while the crew had lunch. He shared his favorite spots and techniques. Chris and Dave are headed out after some slimers on an unnamed coastal river, while Dave is up from California.

We didn't need to add a lot of water to the concrete, as mother nature dumped on us all day. The county provided a temporary shelter to cover the wet cement, otherwise it would not have been possible to finish. The saturated soil prevented us from driving down to the work site, so each bag of cement was hand carried to the site. The crew went to lunch, then home for a hot shower and nap.
A small, but muscular crew was required on the 23rd to carry the kiosk out to the footings and stand it up.

The club was well represented at the dedication ceremony on the 26th. Special thanks to Tony for the pictures, and thanks to everyone who made this thing go together.
